NIGERIA WE HAIL THEE
Nigeria we hail thee,
Our once sovereign motherland who stood a towering Giant in Africa,
Whose flag symbolized the reign of justice and truth,
Whose coat of arms showed strength, unity and wealth,
Whose diversity in tribe and tongue never affected the brotherhood among her children,
Whose leaders fought selflessly to free her from the shackles of colonization,
Whose cultural and traditional heritage was revered and passed down to the generations yet unborn.
Nigeria we hail thee,
For she who once stood a Giant now crawls on her knees crippled by corruption,
She whose Flag; green and white was a symbol of Justice and truth is now tainted with blotches of red- the blood of the innocent spilled to facilitate the lies and illegal acquisition of wealth and power.
She who unitedly thrived in diversity is now plagued by tribalism and nepotism,
She now honours and offers grand econiums to the white collared thieves in power whilst neglecting the cries of the poor
And her cultural heritage supplanted by the insatiable crave for currency and flashy fast cars by her youth who now indulge in nefarious and fraudulent activities
Her nights now afflicted by sounds and toxic smoke of engines and generators compensating for the power she freely supplied others but now from her own, hordes.
Nigeria we hail thee,
The freedom our fathers fought for have become a bondage,
Her shores and deserts now scarred by the blood and bodies of her children who attempted escape in search of greener pastures,
Like a deaf man crying for help in a dark cave,
Democracy, the Deafman’s Torch has been extinguished by the liquid greed and corruption flowing freely.
Like a paraplegic contesting in a race with able-bodied trained athletes,
Our chances of victory over poverty, insecurity and unemployment stands thus slim.
Wow!
